Memorial Day Parade / Dog Walk

Environmental Commission
In honor of war dogs past and present, the Metuchen Environmental Commission invites you and your four footed friend to march in the Memorial Day Parade sponsored by the Metuchen Area Chamber of Commerce. Gather at 9:30 AM on May 26 in the Pearl Street parking lot. All dogs must be well behaved, kept on a leash at all times, and walked by an adult. Red, white and blue ribbons are encouraged!
Friends of the Metuchen Library - Barbara Buono 5/18

Senator Barbara Buono is the keynote speaker at the Friends of the Metuchen Library program on Sunday, May 18, at 2PM in the Community Room of the Library at 480 Middlesex Ave.
Senator Buono, as the chairwoman of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee, will discuss many aspects of the current State budget process. She has served in the Legislature as Senator since 2001 after seven years in the General Assembly. Senator Buono is a long-time Metuchen resident.
A question and answer period and refreshment will follow the presentation which is open to the public.
The program is made possible through the Sally Slobodien Brainy Boro Lecture Series. Additional information is available by calling the Library at 732-632-8526.

YMCA Announces Golf Outing

The Metuchen Edison Woodbridge YMCA will once again host the Fourth Annual Richard M. Hale Memorial YMCA Golf Classic at Rutgers University on Tuesday, June 3, 2007.
Richard 'Dick' Hale's name has always been synonymous with Rutgers University. Dick was an active community advocate and served for many years on the board of the Metuchen Edison Woodbridge YMCA. He was determined to ensure that the YMCA would always be positioned to positively impact community life without regard to funding constraints. Hence, in 1994 the YMCA Golf Classic was born.
The proceeds benefit the YMCA Fund for Tomorrow. It was Dick's can-do spirit that permeates all our hard work and motivates us to reach higher. The Fund for Tomorrow enables the YMCA to accomplish the critical mission-based work undertaken in our community each year.

Metuchen Lions to host Pancake Breakfast

The Metuchen Lions Club and the Metuchen Metro Lions Club are joining together to host the First Annual Pancake Breakfast The breakfast is to raise funds for the following three causes: Sponsor a guide dog for a disabled veteran; Help local school children who are sight and/or hearing impaired; Scholarships for local high school students. The breakfast will be hald on Sunday, May 18 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Metuchen High School Cafeteria, 400 Grove Ave., Metuchen. Bring the whole family and enjoy pancakes, sausage, bacon, juice, coffee or tea and pastries. $6.00 per adult, $4.00 children 10 or under. Donations also accepted. Chamber member Robert Chalfin of Chalfin Group Inc. announced today that the Robert J. and Deborah A. Chalfin Family Foundation, Inc. has released the names of the recipients of its 2007 Scholarships. They are Jeffrey Morshed, JP Stevens High School -- $1,000, Nicholas Donahue, Metuchen High School -- $1,000, and Kristina Cruz, Metuchen High School -- $500.
The foundation offers scholarships to high school seniors from the Metuchen/Edison area. Students who will be graduating from high school in 2008 who are interested in applying for the scholarship should go to www.chalfin.com and click the tab marked "Foundation" to obtain the 2008 application as well as additional information on the Foundation. The 2008 application is due on May 9, 2008.

Police Launch Child Safety Campaign

The Metuchen Police Department has begun a safety Campaign entitled "Keep Kids Alive, Drive
25". The plastic 18" x 24" signs have the "Keep Kids Alive Drive 25" slogan printed on both sides. They may be loaned out for free for 2-3 weeks at a time to borough
